Dallas Couple Builds Luxurious Shipping Container Home

ext

One of the best things about shipping container architecture is that you can go as small or as large as you like. Matt and Barbara Mooney of Dallas, TX worked with local firm M Gooden Design to create their 3,700-square-foot dream home using 14 40-foot long recycled shipping containers as the main building blocks.

The home is called PV14 House and it is a great example of cargotecture at its finest.

Matt is actually an architect himself, so he co-designed the home with M Gooden Design. PV14 House is a two story single family home, and includes 3 bedrooms, and large open plan living area, 3.5 bathrooms, a kitchen, and dining room, as well as a 2 car garage and a storage area. The home also has a small penthouse with roof access, as well as several covered porches next to all the main living areas, and a large roof deck.

One of the designers’ main goals was to build a home that was modern and unique. To this end they did not try to hide the fact that it was constructed using shipping containers. A lot of the interior as well as exterior walls were left in the original condition. The home also features concrete floors, an exposed steel structure, pre-manufactured steel modules, masonry and glass as primary design elements.
